Oh pi day, you’re no good.

I got a Powertap Pro on a Open Pro, 32h. eBay. It came on Tuesday. It’s really cool.

This is my rest week, but I haven’t been able to resist playing “high score,” as Cole says, a little bit. Instantaneous power doesn’t really matter, I suppose, but I hit 1322 watts on Tuesday. Wooo! Here’s a few Coggan powers from the first couple days: 5s = 1110, 10s = 898, 20s = 785, 60s = 507. I think all of those will go up with Sunday’s Banana Belt #3 race data. I’m going out tomorrow morning to do my CP30 and get a better idea of my threshold power (and threshold heartrate, if it’s changed).

I flatted on the way home today. It took me 15 minutes to fix it. I cut my finger somehow. I was wiping snot and blood on my shorts, trying to get the wheel back together. It was a mess. I got some blood on the rim. How often does that happen?!

I get back on and pedal away. Three minutes later, it’s flat again. (Yes, I did check the tire for pokey stuff) I pumped the tire up without fixing it and rode a bit, but it went flat pretty fast. I really wanted to just ride it the five minutes left to home, but the idea of destroying my new Powertap wheel won out. I walked. It was not fun.

Today concludes Dead Week at UO. I didn’t really do anything. I have four finals next week, as well as a ridiculously huge lab report that I haven’t made that much progress on.

Yeah, that’s pretty much it. I’m looking for a good finish at BB3 on Sunday and some better weather. If I win, I’ll qualify for a Cat 3 upgrade. That seems awfully crazy to me.

It’s been a good rest week (though maybe not as good as it should’ve been, eeek) and I’m ready for some collegiate racing on March 22nd.

That’s pretty much it, I guess. Hope to see some of you guys out at BB3. I’ll be hanging out with Ben Johnson and David Monnig.

Check out this sweet cross photo that was sent out on the UO cycling listserv:
