SECOND!

17 03 2008

Candi emailed the Banana Belt Series results out earlier today, and I got second! I thought I would fall a lot further than one spot after getting zero points yesterday.

I found out that Greg Sanders races for PSU, so I’ll get to spend lots of time hanging out with him. Awesome.

Banana Belt 3 Analysis

First off, some lap statistics:

I selected any time that I was 120% of my threshold for more than a minute. There was only one- the 1 minute climb about 4.5 minutes from the finish line (the steep, annoying one). I put out 450 watts for that minute, and 500 watts for the 45 seconds in the middle of it. That’s 6.8 watts/kg. The humbling thing is a good pro-level climber has a threshold of around that. My effort was nearly double my threshold power.

So, by strict definition of Coggan’s matches, I burned one match. Most of the hills are not long enough to ‘trigger’ a match, I think. I also looked at how many times I was 200% of threshold for at least 15 seconds- 7 times.

Mean Maximal Powers from being a Cat 4 at Banana Belt 3:
5 sec: 890 watts (12.0 watts/kg)
10 sec: 765 watts (10.3 watts/kg)
20 sec: 575 watts (7.8 watts/kg)
30 sec: 507 watts (6.9 watts/kg)
1 min: 455 watts (6.1 watts/kg)
2 min: 321 watts (4.3 watts/kg)
5 min: 267 watts (3.6 watts/kg)

I didn’t set any new CP records yesterday. I sat in the whole time. There were a couple times I had to jump (mainly after the corner onto the dam).

I had my physics and chemistry lab final today. It was brutal. I have about 4 hours to ride between tomorrow and Friday (crazy, right?) with a math final on Wednesday and a chemistry final on Thursday. Friday night I’m staying with Mike, then getting up for the UO road race and team time trial on Saturday. Sunday morning we’re going up to Corvallis for the OSU criterium (everybody should come out and watch!). I’m spending Monday through Friday in Corvallis with my family, then driving down to Eugene to meet the team and drive up to Bellingham Friday night. We have the road race and time trial Saturday morning and afternoon. After that, we drive to Seattle for the criterium in the morning. Then it’s driving back to Eugene, and class in the morning, along with another hard training block.

It’s good to know that I can do the average power of the Pro 1/2 race for 4 minutes (on average). Thank you, Powertap.
